Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired the first meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Parliament residence in New Delhi. This also led to marking the first-ever official parliamentary meeting of the NDA MPs with the Prime Minister since the beginning of the third term of his government. Although PM Modi has addressed the NDA MPs on several occasions, especially when he was selected as their leader at the start of each term, it has been more traditional for him to speak at NDA MPs' meetings during parliamentary sessions.
In the following meeting PM Narendra Modi asked the MPs to "Follow the Parliament rules".The Prime Minister encouraged every MP to visit the 'PM Sangrahalaya' with their families. He emphasized that MPs should present issues from their constituencies effectively and advised them to develop expertise in areas of personal interest that could be addressed in Parliament. "Adhere to the principles of parliamentary democracy," he added.
Prime Minister also asked the MPs not to behave like Rahul Gandhi especially after he made anti-Hindu statements in the Parliament on Monday.
Gandhi’s sharp criticisms of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were removed from the official record. The expunged comments included accusations of unfair treatment of minorities, criticisms of industrialists Adani and Ambani, claims that the NEET exam favors the wealthy over deserving students, and allegations that the Agniveer Scheme originated from the Prime Minister’s Office rather than the Indian Army.
Gandhi faced numerous interruptions during his hour-and-forty-minute speech, including two from Prime Minister Modi and interjections from at least five cabinet ministers. Home Minister Amit Shah demanded an apology from Gandhi, reflecting the high tension in the House.
Gandhi remained resolute, stating, “It is not just one religion that talks about courage. All our religions talk about courage.” He further challenged the BJP’s credentials, saying, “Aap Hindu ho hi nahi” [You are not Hindu]. It is written in Hinduism that one should stand with the truth and not back down from or fear it.”
